Steeple Aston Village Archive (SAVA)

SAVA is Steeple Aston's own Archive for the history of the village - past and present. Established in 2001, it was one of the first to be set up in North Oxfordshire. The Archive is a registered charity managed on a voluntary, not-for-profit basis by a committee of (currently) eight local people.

SAVA relies largely on donations from the village community and the Parish Council, and has received specific grants for projects from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Oxfordshire Community Foundation.

The collections are kept in a purpose-made store in the Village Hall, but increasingly a large number of documents are being digitised so that they can be made more accessible to the community on-line, through SAVA's website at www.steepleastonarchive.org.uk.

Each year SAVA holds a Spring Talk by an invited speaker, and an Autumn Exhibition on a range of different themes relating to the village. These have included: Education, the Environment, Business and Trade, Then and Now, and Farming. The 2010 exhibition is an Historical Survey of Village Houses.

If you would like to donate items, help with their projects, or help by sponsoring the Archive, they would be delighted to hear from you.
