Steeple Aston Village Archive (SAVA)
SAVA is Steeple Aston's own Archive for the history of the village - past and present. Established in 2001, it was one of the first to be set up in North Oxfordshire. The Archive is a registered charity managed on a voluntary, not-for-profit basis by a committee of (currently) eight local people.
SAVA relies largely on donations from the village community and the Parish Council, and has received specific grants for projects from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Oxfordshire Community Foundation.
The collections are kept in a purpose-made store in the Village Hall, but increasingly a large number of documents are being digitised so that they can be made more accessible to the community on-line, through SAVA's website at www.steepleastonarchive.org.uk, which will be re-vamped in late 2009.
Each year SAVA holds a Spring Talk by an invited speaker, and an Autumn Exhibition on a range of different themes relating to the village. These have included: Education, the Environment, Business and Trade, Then and Now, and Farming. The 2009 exhibition will be on the theme of Village Personalities.
If you would like to donate items, help with their projects, or help by sponsoring the Archive, they would be delighted to hear from you.

Valentine Club (Over-60s)
The Valentine Club dates back to 1954 when a group of “seniors” decided to get together on an informal basis to have a chat and provide some of their own entertainment.
Although times have changed and our ability to enjoy recreation and sport has possibly improved there is still a need to bring like-minded people together within their own community. Did you know that the over 60 population in Oxfordshire is outgrowing any other age group in numbers and we are all living that bit longer so there is an even greater need to provide something for our age group?
The club meets on each third Tuesday of the month in the Village Hall where we are entertained by singers, dancers, speakers and the occasional film show. We always provide refreshments, homemade I must add, and there is always the opportunity to have a chat and meet new friends. We put on coach trips at least six times a year as well as the legendary Christmas Dinner. For photos, please click here.
We provide information on health care and benefits and work closely with Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire Community Council and Age Concern.
All this for £5 per year and the cost of a raffle ticket if you feel so inclined. Talk about a recession, we’ve never had it so good! If you would like to find out more about the club come along to any of our meetings or give me a call on 01869 340512.
Life starts at 60 so come along and join your fellow baby-boomers!
